Samsung and LG compete fiercely on OLED patents

According to statistics from the Korea Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) as of June 20, Samsung and LG's OLED patent applications accounted for 54.2% of all OLED patent applications, of which Samsung took the lead, accounting for 32.7% of all OLED patent applications. Or 2,350 applications, followed by LG, accounting for 21.5% of all OLED patent applications or 1,541 applications.
In addition, according to statistics, as of the end of April this year, Samsung and LG also ranked first and second in the number of all OLED patents, respectively, 3713 and 1231, Seiko Epson Co., Ltd., Semiconductor Energy Research Institute and Sanyo respectively The third, fourth and fifth places have 383 patents, 327 and 119 patents respectively. LG and Samsung's patent registration, between 2008 and 2012, the average annual success rate was 87.1% and 83.4%.
The head of the KIPO review department said that with the PDP, LCD patents are dominated by US and Japanese manufacturers, and OLED patents have been seized by Korean companies.
