Install A Transducer On Kayak Omc Trolling Motor [2012-01-03]

A transducer is a device that converts one form of energy to another. Energy types include (but are not limited to) electrical, mechanical, electromagnetic (including light), chemical, acoustic or thermal energy. While the term transducer commonly implies the use of a sensor/detector, any device which converts energy can be considered a transducer. Transducers are widely used in measuring instruments.
Purchasing a puck transducer designed for Mini Kota Trolling Motor mounting is best, but if you already have a skimmer type transducer that can also be used.
Locate the transducer directly behind the fin on the bottom of the trolling motor.
Clamp the transducer to the trolling motor with a stainless steel hose clamp. Puck transducers have a slot for the hose clamp, while skimmer transducer will require the clamp to be placed around the bracket that comes with the skimmer and is normally used by screwing to the transom. Make certain the transducer points straight down without tilting to either side.
Route the transducer cable around the Omc Trolling Motor housing and fasten it to the bottom of the trolling motor shaft with a nylon wire tie.
Continue clamping the transducer cable by attaching a nylon wire tie every four to six inches. If the trolling motor is a bow mount be sure to allow enough slack in the cable to allow depth adjustment. With transom mount motors no slack is needed.
Stop clamping the transducer cable at the top of the shaft and route the wire to the fish finder.
Use a sharp knife to trim the excess length from the nylon wire ties.
Attach the transducer cable to the fish finder using the plug on the cable end of Kayak Motor.
