Only real anglers can appreciate this constant search for perfection.
The concept behind the trolling motor was ingenious and a breakthrough for the angler. A small controllable silent motor that could take the angler smoothly from spot to spot was needed and not quite achieved. It had to be light, efficient and most of all quiet electric power was preferred due to its quiet operation. However once this ingenious concept was developed it pretty much continued with the same design and power constraints pretty much over the next 30 years.
Enter the Motor Guide Trolling Motor
No one understands that a trolling motor should be better than the dedicated angler should, and G.H. Harris was an angler with a mission to make trolling motors to suit the angler not the angler modifying his fishing to suit the trolling motor.
The foot operated trolling motor which returned to its straight-ahead position once pressure was removed from the pedal, was perfected by (G.H. Harris) using an old-field motor. It worked so well that it was later marketed under the brand Guide-Rite and then later branded as Motor Guide. It was not that the technology was missing it was simply that the will to devise a better system was lacking until Motor Guide.
From that point onward, the Motor Guide Company not only manufactured the existing motor but was also dedicated to developing newer and better ways to reach trolling speeds, and control the motor while leaving the fisherman free to focus on why he was there – to fish. Throughout the 1960s, Motor Guide continued to experiment with design, power, and storage and introduced innovations to the trolling motor improving steering with the rack and pinion steering, replacing field spring magnets with permanent magnets, and the inclusion of transistors to allow an infinitely variable speed motor.
A few years later motor guide trolling motors introduced flat storage along the bow of the boat an innovative concept born of the need for improved storage.
Only real anglers can appreciate this constant search for perfection, the knowledge of the real problems that an angler faces with a trolling motor all day on salt water. It takes angler to know what needs improvement in design, power, or storage and what factors cause delays or disruptions to a day of blissful fishing. Motor Guide trolling motors are built and designed by anglers who fish.
Today’s Motor Guide trolling motors feature wireless capability, foot pedal or remote control operation. Specially sealed salt water trolling motors designed to withstand harsh conditions a salt-water angler may face and a feature called Digital Guardian that monitors your motor’s operation, amp production and helps maximize operating life of the already sturdy Motor Guide trolling motors.
Wireless operation, or traditional foot pedal, variable speeds, 12/24/36 power options and long lived components designed for anglers by anglers makes Motor Guide trolling motors superior trolling motors. These are trolling motors designed by those who know tournament conditions, how savage salt water can be, and how frustrating it can be when a trolling motor does not do its job. The Motor Guide trolling motors are designed to eliminate those problems, not ignore them.
